THOMAS SUMTER – MILITARY HERO/BRIGADIER GENERAL
Thomas Sumter was a brilliant tactician and leader in the Southern Campaign of the War for American Independence, in the Continental Army and South Carolina Militia, earning the moniker, “The Fighting Gamecock.” His ability to confuse and exasperate British Commander, Lord Cornwallis and Sumter’s relentless and hot pursuit of the enemy made him a key player in the difficult battles to stop the British from re-taking the colonies in 1781-82.
